Traditionally a blended whisky will contain whisky made from malted barley from various distilleries, and grain whisky. Blending these together, the goal is to create the most harmonious and balanced whisky possible. Vattings are like single malts in the sense that they only contain whisky produced from malted barley, however they are sourced from various distilleries and hence cannot be called single malts.
