You might just know which unnamed distillery on Orkney provided Thompson Bros. with this delicious whisky, and if so you're probably also aware that it tends to be a very consistent producer of tasty whisky.
the nose is maritime, chalk, limestone, kelp, dehydrated citrus, charred driftwood, dried grass and peat smoke. Medium-bodied, gentle, citrus, salty and peaty with some sweeter notes, medicinal herbs and a touch of tobacco. Oily texture but with a surprisingly dry, lingering finish, obvious leather and mild, citrus and seaweed.
This expression was distilled in 2011 and was put down to mature for a total of 11 years, first in a refill hogshead before being transferred for finishing for six months into a refill hogshead which previously contained Caol Ila. Another fabulous label dressing this latest whisky release, with 406 bottles filled by Thompson Bros at a natural cask strength of 50% abv.
