Armagnac Chateau de Leberon is a family-run Armagnac Chateau that has been passed down for four generations.
Located in the Tenarze region of Armagnac, it has always produced traditional Armagnac brandy.
In addition to their single vintage bottlings, Leberon has a very popular release — Armagnac Chateau de Leberon (Solera) 2001.
The Armagnac Solera 2001 has always had many fans at The Whisky Library.
This Armagnac comes from an enormous 55 HL oak cask that has never been emptied since 2001. Every year, Leberon draws about 10% of the liquid and replenishes the cask with Armagnac from three years prior (N-3).
This is the “SOLERA” aging principle — a perpetual reserve, constantly topped up. This unique method allows the blend to continuously merge and accumulate transformations year after year, resulting in a rich, harmonious, and layered flavor profile.
It’s similar to the "never-ending gravies" or "master stocks" that will never run out in some western and easter kitchens respectively, always being refreshed and deepening in flavors.
This SOLERA system originated in Andalusia, Spain, though many regions have their own versions. In the Armagnac region of France, it’s known as the “cellar master’s cask.”
