Though the origins are a mystery, "Secret" Speysides often either one of two particular powerhouses of the Speyside region. The fact that the Thompson Brothers selected this single malt whisky gives us enough confidence.
Hailing from an undisclosed Speyside distillery, it's a splendid 11-year-old single malt, independently bottled by Thompson Bros. Distilled in 2011, the whisky was drawn from a pair of refill sherry butts in 2023 and brought down to a palatable 48.5% ABV before bottling.
Librarian tasting note:
Nose: Brust of sweet barley, maltose, the sulphur character is getting more and more dominant, some raw seaweed
Palate: Very complex and conflicting. The sweet barley note continues and brings out some hint of stone fruits. The sulphur turns into meatiness and mineral like.
Finish: A parade of spices along with some zesty citrusy.
