The Balmenach distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland, near the town of Cromdale. Founded in 1824, the distillery produces a variety of single malt whisky using traditional methods. It is known for its use of locally-sourced ingredients, long fermentation, small stills, and worm tubs. The distillery's whisky is available worldwide and is known for its rich and complex flavor profile, with notes of honey, fruit, and spice. Balmenach is considered to be a smaller-scale producer of single malt whisky and is highly prized by other firms for its unique and distinctive style, and it is often used as a component in blended whiskies. The nose is delicate and complex, with notes of honey, dry hay, and fresh citrus peel. There are also hints of oats and a subtle sweetness. The palate is gentle and nuanced, with notes of nougat, honey and oats. The dry hay and fresh citrus peel add a nice balance to the sweetness. The mouthfeel is well-balanced, with a slight salty note. Long & smooth finish, with a nice balance of sweetness and freshness from the citrus peel. The 32 years of aging has given this whisky a complexity and depth that is hard to find in other whiskies!
This special bottling of Balmenach 32 years old is a hogshead distilled in 1989, presumably a bourbon hogshead, bottled in Scotland by The Auld Alliance at 45.4%, non chillfiltered and with no colorant added.
